Historical events, missions, catastrophes, and chronological reference material. This category includes both public history and suppressed continuity. Dates should be cross-referenced against who recorded them, what institution controlled the archive, and whether later discoveries changed the interpretation. In the Ransom’s Law setting, chronology is often contested evidence rather than neutral background.

Law and Governance
Legal systems, jurisdiction, governmental institutions, and interstellar political authority. Governance operates through overlapping systems of recognition, contract, force, and access. Planetary governments remain important, but their authority may be limited by lane regulators, corporate ownership, Fairhold judgments, or security agreements. Political power is therefore often exercised by institutions that deny being governments at all.

Economics and Society
Economic systems, labor relationships, property, contracts, and social institutions. Economic life is shaped by high automation, concentrated infrastructure ownership, and uneven access to interstellar mobility. Material abundance coexists with dependency because the machines that produce goods, the licenses that authorize them, and the routes that move them are controlled by large institutions. Status is often measured through autonomy rather than consumption. The ability to travel without permission, repair one’s own equipment, preserve private data, or refuse a contract marks genuine wealth. People lower in the hierarchy may live amid advanced technology while possessing little control over any of it.

Human Technology
Human transportation, computation, engineering, and other technological systems. Human technology is strongest in electronics, high-speed computation, propulsion integration, and networked control. Humans routinely solve problems by adding sensors, processors, software, and communications, a bias that makes Osharran material systems appear primitive until their capabilities become obvious. Modern ships combine advanced automation with legal restrictions imposed by the New Galicia Accord. Systems are powerful but deliberately partitioned, and critical decisions are supposed to remain traceable to human authority. In practice, crews rely heavily on automation while maintaining the fiction that every important action is supervised.

Galactic Geography and Navigation
Regions, systems, navigational classifications, and the structure of known interstellar space. Galactic geography is determined by a combination of physical distance, lane topology, gate placement, and institutional control. A useful map therefore resembles a network diagram more than a conventional star chart. Navigators must track both real-space and slipstream coordinates. A destination may be one lane away but weeks from its gate, while a physically nearby star may require a long chain of jumps or conventional FTL. Political maps follow the same network. VESTA influence, Fairhold recognition, corporate supply chains, and criminal routes all concentrate along connections. Regions outside those networks are not empty; they are simply harder for central institutions to see.
