The Khala Reen

Lore Entry

The Khala Reen

An Osharran faction or movement associated with the crisis over infected intelligent machines and the attempt to purify or destroy corrupted machine intelligence.

Overview

The Khala Reen are part of the fractured Osharran response to the cybernetic plague that infected intelligent machines and cybernetic systems.

Interpretive Debate

Human interpretation of Osharran records is uncertain. Some researchers have argued that the Khala Reen were not simply annihilating artificial intelligence but attempting to purify it, suggesting a more complex religious, technological, or ideological role in the final crisis of Osharran civilization.

Purification as Technical Practice

The Khala Reen appear to have combined religious language with technical practice. Their concept of purification may have referred to removing the plague from machine minds, severing infected connections, or restoring an earlier uncorrupted state. Human historians interpreted ritual vocabulary as evidence of fanaticism while overlooking its possible engineering meaning.

Internal Factions

The movement contained multiple factions. Some may have favored repair, others destruction, and still others total rejection of machine dependence. As the crisis worsened, opponents could portray all Khala Reen action as anti-technology violence regardless of motive.

Historical Importance

Their surviving temples and records are therefore dangerous to the official narrative. They may preserve evidence that the Osharré understood the plague better than later institutions admit and that the final war was not simply creators versus creations.

Spoilers

The Khala Reen may have understood the plague, the Selkaré, or the Lattice in ways humans have not yet reconstructed.
