Internal disagreement centers less on the existence of the threat than on acceptable collateral damage, secrecy, and how much autonomy living humans should retain.

Continuance Group

A group with significant influence in the setting. Publicly, the group frames continuity technologies as estate planning and medical preservation. Privately, its contracts confront unresolved questions about whether a digital person is a successor, a product, or the original client. Those ambiguities provide both the funding model and the legal concealment that make Arenal possible.

Amaranth Technologies

A company that promised digital immortality through consciousness uploading and robotic avatars. Amaranth marketed immortality through emotionally powerful demonstrations and carefully limited technical claims. Its promises helped normalize the idea that identity could be stored, transferred, and restored even when the underlying science remained disputed. A university connected to Tierce’s education and to Osharran researcher Linus Korrin-Wei. Corvalis University is a major center for systems engineering, legal studies, and xenoarchaeology. Its prestige attracts corporate funding that expands research while quietly shaping which questions receive institutional support. Tierce’s connection to the Sandbox and Korrin-Wei’s academic history both reflect the university’s proximity to controversial advanced work.

El Atajo

A powerful, partly secret criminal organization associated with piracy and other illicit activity. El Atajo coordinates piracy, smuggling, protection, intelligence brokerage, and political influence without requiring every participant to know the larger structure. Drahn’s control over Delos gives the organization access to legitimate ports and administrative cover. Its greatest strength is not secrecy alone but the ability to make illicit commerce function more reliably than official channels.

Halberd Equity

An investment organization involved in financing the Iryss venture. Halberd Equity provides large-scale capital for colonization, infrastructure, and resource development. Its participation signals that a venture has passed serious financial review, but also subjects the venture to strict performance expectations. On Iryss, its influence helps the colonists command services unavailable to poorer settlements.

Intersec

Another private security company mentioned as an alternative to Aegis. Intersec offers conventional facility security, convoy escort, and colonial defense. It is often named in competitive bids where clients want an alternative to Aegis without relying on a small local contractor. Its value in the narrative lies partly in proving that Aegis cannot openly behave as though no substitute exists.

A security company identified as a potential competitor to Aegis. Kellen Security Group is a disciplined corporate-security competitor with experience protecting wealthy colony ventures. Its potential interest in Iryss gives local investors leverage during Aegis contract negotiations. Khala Reen

An Osharran religious or ideological movement that opposed the Selkaré and sought to “purify” them. The Khala Reen are remembered through a human historical framework that casts them as anti-machine zealots, but surviving evidence suggests their doctrine responded to corruption or infection within the Selkaré. Their language of purification may have been literal rather than genocidal. The distortion of their motives is central to the false official history of Osharran extinction.

An organization involved in a legal case Cal is working on while employed by TrustUs!
