The Triton Compact
A technocratic legal regime that created unified rules for trade, indenture, jurisdiction, and corporate compliance.
Once a fringe alliance of Outer System colonies, the Triton Compact evolved into a powerful legal and bureaucratic regime: a technocratic solution to the chaos of conflicting planetary laws and corporate jurisdictions.
Formed under the promise of one set of rules that would be impartial, efficient, and fair, the Compact established a unified legal framework adopted by most major corporations, trade coalitions, and colonial governments.
At its heart is Fairhold, the Compact’s judicial and regulatory engine, staffed by Praetor-class AI judges and human legal bureaucrats.
Fairhold does not command armies and does not enforce laws directly. It does not need to. The true power of the Triton Compact is economic and reputational erasure.
If Fairhold deems a person, ship, colony, or company noncompliant or hostile, the target is disconnected: no insurance, no shipping contracts, no docking rights, no credentials, no licenses, and no certifications recognized by systems that honor Compact authority.
Once the Compact turns against you, you stop existing in the legal and commercial fabric of civilized space.
To some, the Compact is a welcome improvement over the fractured, arbitrary laws of the past. At least now people know the rules. To others, it is a dystopia with a user-friendly interface.
