An overview of the fragmented corporate, military, religious, and planetary power structures that govern the Ransom’s Law universe.
There is no central government in the Ransom’s Law universe. Human interstellar society is governed by corporations, military factions, religious sects, independent planetary rulers, trade alliances, and quasi-governmental institutions.
Law enforcement is fragmented. Corporate security forces, mercenaries, repo teams, and private enforcement bodies often handle disputes that would once have belonged to states.
The result is not lawlessness, but legal saturation: contracts, compliance regimes, jurisdictional claims, private security rights, and enforcement mechanisms overlap until power belongs to whoever can make the rules stick.
