Koschei

Koschei is a cold, neglected world in the Lucerne system, widely regarded as dead and economically irrelevant. From orbit it appears as smooth dirty-brown plains broken by black rock outcrops under pale light, with random dust gusts sweeping its surface. The planet has a thin atmosphere that can be breathed only with filtration; its air carries toxins and abrasive grit, making prolonged exposure hazardous. Its best-known landmark is an abandoned Osharran mining colony on the open plain. The site includes a low, half-buried industrial facility with a central hub, long service spines, collapsed storage berms, and a choked gantry line, alongside a massive spiraling spire and an observation tower protruding from the silt. The colony is identified in recovered records as an early Helium-3 mining operation, and the surrounding terrain is unstable enough that structures and voids can lie deeply buried beneath drifting silt. Koschei’s registered population is dispersed among industrial settlements, service enclaves, transient crews, and remotely administered concessions. Much of the world’s inhabited infrastructure is isolated or buried, which accounts for the contrast between its large registry population and its reputation as a dead system.
