Mining Site

Abandoned Helium-3 mining site on Koschei with low structures, silt, gantries, and toxic grit.

The Koschei mining site is an abandoned Osharran helium-3 operation spread across a flat brown-gray plain beneath a pale white star. Fine silt moves continually across the surface in thin windblown sheets, gradually swallowing structures and obscuring old routes. The atmosphere is thin and technically breathable with filtration, but prolonged exposure to toxins, grit, and radiation is hazardous. The principal complex consists of a low central hub connected to two long service spines. Collapsed storage berms have become dunes, and a gantry line that once carried ore into a processing throat lies choked and silent. Administrative, habitation, and control functions were concentrated in the hub, while hundreds of semi-sapient Selkaré performed the actual extraction work across a much wider area. The site contains service corridors, storage rooms, processing infrastructure, sealed chambers, and the remains of an observation tower protruding through accumulated silt. Much of the facility is structurally unstable, and buried voids or passages can remain hidden beneath apparently solid ground. A gigantic spiraling Osharran spire lies on its side near the main complex. Unlike the surrounding ruins, it did not collapse naturally; its orientation indicates that it was deliberately lowered or positioned. The site’s exposed machinery and habitable sections reflect its original role as a command center for a mostly automated extraction network rather than a large permanent settlement.

Spoilers

The fallen spire was positioned as a directional marker pointing toward the concealed Koschei Research Facility.
