Location
Aegis Camp
Tense perimeter zone
The Aegis camp on Aralx is a temporary but heavily fortified security installation built against the lower slope of the mountain containing the Khala Reen site. Prefabricated buildings, equipment shelters, vehicle positions, communications hardware, and defensive fencing are arranged to control the approaches to both the summit and the colony road. The site is designed for rapid deployment and practical dominance rather than permanence or comfort. Access is regulated through armed checkpoints, scans, searches, and direct orders from Commander Tomas Rykov. Aegis personnel treat the surrounding ground as a controlled security zone extending well beyond the immediate camp, giving them authority over colonist traffic and supply movements. The camp’s layout supports surveillance, detention, interrogation, and the quick movement of troops between the fence line, the mountain trail, and the landing area. Although contracted to protect PANTHEA’s archaeological operation, the camp also functions as an instrument of pressure against Aralx Site Alpha. Its weapons, vehicles, and communications systems give Aegis far more practical authority than either the colonists or PANTHEA’s civilian researchers.
Spoilers
After the colonists attack, Aegis retains control of the camp, kills most of the attackers, and destroys the Khala Reen temple rather than allow its discoveries to escape institutional control.
