Narrow Margin

The Narrow Margin is a TrustUs! repossession vessel captained by Soren Marsh and one of the Hard Bargain’s most persistent professional rivals. Like the Hard Bargain, it is a pusher designed to intercept and recover other ships, but Marsh operates it with a more openly competitive and opportunistic philosophy. The vessel is equipped for coercive boarding and ship-to-ship combat, allowing Marsh to treat disputed recoveries as contests decided by position and firepower. During the Celestial Aura operation, the Narrow Margin joins a group of repo ships converging on Koschei under circumstances suggesting that Marsh received incentives beyond the normal recovery bounty. Marsh attempts to control the field and prevent rival crews from reaching the target. In the resulting confrontation, the Celestial Aura uses its plasma thruster to disrupt the Narrow Margin’s approach while the Hard Bargain opens fire with railguns. The Narrow Margin suffers severe damage to an auxiliary thruster and enters an uncontrolled spin. Its defeat demonstrates the limits of conventional repo aggression when faced with coordinated action between two ships and an intelligent vessel capable of precise timing. The ship’s fate also deepens Marsh’s hostility toward Torrence and the Hard Bargain crew. The Narrow Margin is likely newer or more consistently maintained than the Hard Bargain, but it depends more heavily on predictable tactical superiority. Marsh’s crew is organized around his authority rather than the mutual loyalty that develops aboard the Bargain. This makes the Narrow Margin formidable in an ordinary recovery and less adaptable when the mission stops obeying ordinary rules.
