Mr. Bones

Tierce’s grandmother’s domestic robot, later used to deliver the Star Jasmine and a message to the crew. Mr. Bones’s macabre name contrasts with his domestic purpose and the sentimental role he plays in Tierce’s memories. As an old household machine, he represents a form of artificial intelligence that people accept because it appears limited, familiar, and harmless. His later use as a messenger turns that familiarity into an advantage, allowing him to carry information where a more sophisticated machine would attract scrutiny.
